Nathan Deal’s Office Stopped Commenting On Birther Letter

On Thursday, Congressman Deal’s Chief of Staff Todd Smith said that the Deal Birther letter requested of the President: “Proof of President Obama’s citizenship and natural born citizen status so they could put this issue to rest.” Smith explained on Thursday that he understood, “Something on the back of the birth certificate was not right.”

As if that’s a good enough reason for a Congressman to disrespect the President of the United States, his dead mother, and the State of Hawaii.

Yesterday, Talking Points Memo reported:

Deal office did not return repeated calls from TPM, so we cannot independently verify that the letter was sent.

If it was, Deal was keeping a promise he made in November, when he said he would send “a letter to the President asking that he release a copy of his birth certificate so we can have an answer to this question.”

But at the time, Deal said he’d be joining “several of [his] colleagues” in signing the letter.

The letter he sent? Only one signature on it: Deal’s.

Deal’s staff did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
